Newcastle University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne – IKO Armourplan SM

Project description

Newcastle University has invested in a £75 million development to create an outstanding looking, modern accommodation for its students.

Park View Student Village, which has now replaced the previous 1970s buildings in Richardson Road with six new blocks, provides almost 1,300 en-suite bedrooms for the university’s students and associated infrastructure including a new energy centre for the village.

The new blocks, which consist of ‘+’ shaped accommodation buildings, were delivered utilising offsite construction methods.

The rooms are made from prefabricated containers shipped in from China, fully kitted out and decorated, installed around a central core, and then deck affixed above. IKO Polymeric’s Armourplan SM mechanically fastened PVC membrane was installed above the tapered installation.

Galliford Try chose to work with IKO Polymeric on this project thanks to the strong supply chain relationship between the two companies.

Working alongside their tapered insulation supplier, IKO Polymeric’s Armourplan PVC membrane provided a speedy installation and cost-effective solution. Modern construction methods met traditional roofing applications, providing the new building with an aesthetically pleasing look.

Demolition of the existing flats started in the summer of 2016 and the new village opened its doors to students in September 2018.
