Culham Science Centre – IKO ULTRA Gold 20

Amber and IKO worked together to deliver a sensitive scheme for a new client. Located in the Culham Science Centre, the UK Governments research facility for Fusion Energy.

Delivered by their in house roofing teams, Amber installed new IKO roof coverings to circa 5,500m2 comprising of several roof areas.

The works also comprised of installation of 12 new rooflights, new freestanding guardrail and new cappings. Amber worked closely with IKO to ensure the works were completed on time, on budget and to an outstanding standard.

ISSUES IDENTIFIED

Height – providing safe access and a place of work on a roof 35mtrs high.

Weather – The roof would be open and exposed to extreme weather conditions due to height and location.

Stripping asphalt, insulation, paving slabs and Lytag and getting it safely to the ground.

The concrete deck was poured in situ, concrete which was too rough to accept the weatherproofing needed to be scarified prior to installation.

Cavity trays were too low.

A torch-free zone.
