IKO Permatrack Bridge Surfacing System
IKO Permatrack bridge surfacing is mastic asphalt designed for use as a surface course, base course or protection layer on new build and maintenance road construction of steel and concrete bridge decks.
It can be installed over a number of waterproofing systems including mastic asphalt, bitumen sheet membranes and PMMA cold applied liquids.
Guidance on compatibility with individual waterproofing systems should be sought from the waterproofing manufacturer.

Key benefits to your project
- Covered in BSI document PD6691 – guidance on the use of BS EN 13108 bituminous mixtures.
- Waterproof surfacing – contributes to the overall waterproofing of the structure. Impervious to water and unaffected by freeze/thaw cycling.
- Reduced loadings – dead loads on structure can be reduced through less thickness of surfacing.
- Versatile – product design mixes to accommodate anything from foot to vehicular traffic.
- Rut resistance – offers good resistance to rutting, tested in accordance with BS EN 12697-22.
- Surface finishes to match existing road finishes. Generally, pre-coated chippings are applied to the mastic asphalt whilst still hot to provide surface texture depth and skid resistance.
- Mastic asphalt has a proven track record as a surfacing material on some of the UK’s major bridges, including the Severn Bridge (original crossing) and Forth Road Bridge (original crossing).
