IKO sponsored young Richardson Trek cyclists impress at OVO Energy Tour Series

The Richardson Trek cycling team are celebrating after some of their youngest riders went head to head with the UK’s top cycling talent, including multiple Olympic Gold medallist Ed Clancy.

The amateur Richardson Trek team competed in two of the events in the OVO Energy Tour series this year: Salisbury (Wiltshire) and Brooklands (Surrey). Lewis Bulley finished as part of the leading group in the Salisbury race, just 27 seconds behind winner Freddie Scheske.

At the final race in the series, 18-year-old rider Theo Modell took time out from studying his A-levels to finish in 10th place – even beating some of the professional cyclists.

Team Manager Andy Lyons, speaking after the event said: “Richardson Trek have had a phenomenal year, and it was fantastic to be back competing as a guest team in the OVO Energy Tour Series against some of Britain’s top cycling talent. It’s a huge achievement for a small amateur team such as ours and we are incredibly proud of our riders.

“Theo really raised the bar this year – it was his first event at this level and to take time out from revising to not only hold his own against incredibly tough competition but also to finish 10th overall is fantastic.”

IKO PLC is a proud sponsor of the Richardson Trek team, one of the top UK amateur cycling teams who have consistently been ranked in the top 10 UK teams.

As a family-owned business, local communities and sports facilities are close to its core beliefs, which is why IKO PLC sponsor a number of local sports teams from rugby and football to cycling.
